'Jeannot-lapin naquit à l'âge de sept ans'
Alex Valy's work is strangely beautiful. Eyeless and staring into nothingness,
her 4 feet-high rabbit-children evoke childhood fears frozen in time;
whilst her pure white paper sculpture of a little girl questions the viewers'
perception by staging a confrontation of sight and sound.
"Ideas for work come to me in dreams or daydreams, like some kind of 'vision'.
As I go through the process of making a vision reality, I discover its
significance for myself and hopefully others. In a way, it is almost as if I
decipher it from an outsider's point of view. Almost, but not quite because
the 'vision' is always accompanied with a feeling, an emotion.
It is this feeling that, by making the work and bringing it into the world, I try to communicate."
